There will be a special meeting of the congregation on March 19, immediately following the service, to consider a Constitutional Amendment to adjust the church fiscal year.
We recently underwent a comprehensive financial review by an independent auditor. While he didn’t find any major discrepancies or problems, he did make several recommendations for improving efficiency and effectiveness. One of those recommendations was to align the church and day school fiscal years.
Currently, the church is operating on a calendar year (January 1 – December 31) and the day school budgets for the school year (July 1 – June 30). This overly complicates the budget process. It also projects the image that we are two separate entities, which is not the case. To simplify the budget process, the Finance Committee and Congregational Council are proposing a Constitutional Amendment to shift the church fiscal year to align with the school year, beginning July 1.
The purpose of the March 19 meeting is for the congregation to discuss and vote on the Constitutional Amendment. If the amendment passes, another meeting will be needed to approve a new 2023-24 Ministry Plan.
