Sunday, February 12, Scout Sunday will be recognized at St. Matthew’s. Boy Scouts of America (BSA) celebrated its official birthday on February 8, at 113 years in 2023. Girl Scouts of the United States of America (GSA) celebrates its birthday on March 12, at 111 years in 2023. Both organizations are often acknowledged annually by churches which sponsor and recognize Scouts and Scouting leaders.

This year we are happy to be able to include our Scouts once again and ask that St. Matthew’s members active in Scouting please wear your uniforms to service that day. Tom Bortner, our chartering organization representative, has been directly contacting all currently known Scout members. If he has not yet contacted you, or if you are interested in learning more about our Scouting program, please email or call him soonest at tom.bortner@troop1396.org or cell 571-276-1189.

St. Matthew’s currently sponsors:
Scouts BSA Troop 1396 with 57 Scouts and 51 adult leaders.
Venturing Crew 1396 (co-ed ages 14-20 years), with 12 youth and 14 adult leaders.

Since the first year of St. Matthew’s sponsorship of Troop 1396 in April 1989, our Scouts have enjoyed a great relationship. Our Venturing Crew 1396 has been chartered twice by St. Matthew’s, currently starting August 2018.  Details of their activities and status were provided in their report as part of the Annual Meeting in January 2023. Thanks again to all the people of St. Matthew’s for their sponsorship and organizational support of our units and Scouting.
